This is a tricky one. Selfish as defined in the dictionary means only thinking of ones self and not of others. Firstly it would depend on their reason for doing so. Many who do commit suicide are desperate and feel that they have no option or alternative. Could this be that as a whole society has let them down? They would often see that it is not but those left behind dependant on the situation would most likley say yes. A true recent article in the news. A mother with a young son dies from cancer. Her son of 8 commited suicide three months later . This young soul wanted what he loved most, to be with his mum! Would anyone dare to call this child selfish?

I agree with you Anonymous, I think it can be a yes and no, yes for those you are causing so much pain to and no for your self who is so depressed that you feel the only way out is by commiting suicide. Rather speak to a counciler or someone who can help you get over what ever it is that is making you feel this way

The very worst can be found on the internet were by people who are considering suicide are being incited/encouraged to do so. There was a case not so long ago whereby an older gentlemen was suffering and did commit suicide purely led on by people in a chat room(not to be named). Again I say is society to blame?!

My thoughts is , its a very selfish act to your self & ones around you, plus if you think about it against God's law.Murder is murder whether to ones self or to another.Whether it be Suicide , or an Abortion. Its murder. What does the Bible say ? To commit suicide is to deny ones children & family the love they deserve, to deny God's hand to work through you to help others in need. You talking about the internet, there was also an incident in Missouri. on my space where these school kids were harassing , name calling , bulling ,caused another to commit suicide. So now Missouri has passed a law if caught doing another like this on the internet ,a person will face criminal charges..As for as society to blame. No I think its the parents & the up bringing ,alot of parents want to take the easy way out when the going gets rough ,instilling in there children that if it gets rough, give up , quit ,quit your job go on welfare, don't work for what you want , take a gun & steal it.Commiting suicide is a easy way out.All in all it goes against God's teachings.

Where was God when this young innocent 8 year old child hanged himself because he could not bear to live without his mother who died 3 months earlier from cancer? Did he really take the easy way out and go against Gods teachings. Will he be banished to hell and not be united with his beloved mum. I say it is not so black and white

But natashachamberlin and the Anonymous person are right too, what if it is like that little boy. That is not selfish. I do not know this is such a tricky but very interesting question.

God is always there, if he is called on.Someone wasn't teaching this boy how to love God & his self.Thats why instilling morals into children is so important at a early stage.Teaching them to cope when the going gets rough.Just like me my mom died when I was 12, I thought my world had ended. But from the time of my birth till she died, from a long death of cancer, she took us to church, when she wasn't able she still made sure we went.So I had enough of her wisdom & God's love to know I could with stand anything life threw at me.Reason most call me a survivor. As for as this young boy, at 8 this young boy had no knowledge of what he was doing. The age of creditability is 12 , so yes I think this 8 year old was forgiven & is with God & his mother.

It is neither selfish nor not selfish. This person is in so much pain that they feel there is no way out but by killing them selves. They proberly feel that they are doing the people around them a favour by them not being their any more.

Not at all! I think it is up to the person to do what he or she wants with their life. If they want out then let em out. It is a sad fact that people do commite suiside but then if they aint happy then rather let them go where they will find some peace and happiness.
